Porterville Overnight RIde
Porterville?  Where is Porterville?  It is about 50 miles due North of Bakersfield.  Okay then, why Porterville?  There is a Best Western in Porterville and it is close to the Sequoia National Forest!  Day one travels South to overnight in Porterville then day 2 returns North through the Sequoia National Forest to visit the Hercules tree.

There is a particular monumental tree in the Sequoia National Forest that is the goal.  It is one of the many Giant Sequoias.  This particular Giant Sequoia is named Hercules and has a connection to the chapter:
Philippe, one of the chapter’s French members, lives in Le Pallet, France.  Just off the village square in Le Pallet grows another Giant Sequoia tree.  The Giant Sequoia in Le Pallet, France was grown from a seed of Hercules.  The seed was transported to Le Pallet by General Jean Marion Beaulieu in the early 1800’s.  General Beaulieu was born in Nantes, France and died in Le Pallet.
Beaulieu is the name of one of the old established vineyards in Napa, CA.   If you would like to get out for a ride and take a picture with a tree, then pack your toothbrush and a clean pair of underwear and consider coming along.
